Hi Everyone,
Another interesting show, and you all know how much I enjoy it. This week's was a bit of a funny one for me, I might have imagined it, but when discussing mobile, I feel that the discussion became a little condescending towards Europeans. Redlaser is used by most people I know with a smart phone to get the best deal. Our "gas" prices are about $9 a gallon and we (the internet savvy) don't go driving around to the best deal. But if we are in a store, say Wal Mart and they have a TV on a "good" deal, then we scan it to check and as Bob said, order it online there and then. In other European countries this may be less true, but the point here is that Europe is a very diverse place and I'm not sure you can say it is a them and us situation. when discussing the issues and comparing the US and the Europe.
I find the whole time-shift TV very interesting and it is certainly a challenge for advertisers, I personally delibrately watch yesterdays TV to save me time. Whilst this is a little annoying in terms of everyone talking about shows that they've seen, but I prefer the extra couple of hours of life a week. I agree with the panel that some form of check-in might work, but the reward has to be large enough as many people are already used to not seening ads.
The use of high profile people is very risky in my opinion, I can't see how the general public are in anyway convinced enough by their message. However, I'm sure in certain markets like teenage girls, the use of the latest music star can move a brand up the charts.

I can assure you that I have nothing but respect for Europeans and their culture and the style by which they shop and use smart phones. I am married to a man from Magenta Italy and have spent many years living in various Euro countries. It was more about the culture of shopping as opposed to the US. I think it is silly to drive around anywhere to "look" for the best deal when in fact we can do it right from our living room. I believe that was my point - "why drive to a store to begin with - no matter where you live as my experience in living in Paris, Milan, Copenhagen and Geneva where my transportation was the metro, or foot/Bus, unlike in Los Angeles where if you don't have a car you can't get anywhere...which is why "go to a store and scan something only to stand there and buy it from the store..." just all seemed a bit ridiculous.
Again, I apologize if I came off condescending in any manner.

Great to have your reply on the forum, it's not a very well known/used part of Bob's site yet and I'm trying to get it going for him.
I don't think it was exactly your point with led to my little "rant" above. But sometimes the cast seems to go into US is the best and you can almost hear the flags waving in the background. Which as the largest economy and many ideas and trends originating over there, I can fully appreciate and understand this sometimes.
Again, great to have you posting here.
