The BeanCast | The Best Marketing Podcast Anywhere

Hi Everyone

Isn't interesting how there is so much debate around Facebook and it's attempts to win a more proportionate market share of the click ads?  Surely this is down to the fact that when most people go on social sites, there are not in the mindset to click ads.  Also, prehaps we are not used to seeing the ads yet in those places.  After all, when you go searching using Google, the ads "appear" to be part of the general listing of results, albeit in different colours.  They at least look like a general list.  I've asked around our office, for the average google user to tell me without looking where I could find the paid for ads.  Most got the right hand side ones, but not many realised that the top 3 were ppc ads.  So for me the challenge of ppc with specifically FB is very difficult and may take years to develop fully.

Why do big brands have FB pages?

I liked Bob's point about ads in games, the car example was right on the money.  But I wonder how effective a new ad and/or brand would fair?  Take the racing game example, do the virtual banners act as reminders, or are they effective on their own?  Would a totally new brand be able to have the same impact?  Indeed would this be a great way to gain initial exposure?  What is the shelf-life for these in-game ads?  I know that they last forever in the game, but how long does the game last?

Sorry about the amount of questions, but I felt that this week, the show gave rise to more questions than answer.
