The BeanCast | The Best Marketing Podcast Anywhere

On the show that will be posting later today we discussed the latest round of changes to Facebook and what they mean to both consumers and advertisers. For the record, the three major changes were the addition of groups, the streamlined privacy settings and the ability to download your photos and status updates as a zip file.

So does any of it matter? Does any of it improve the ability of Facebook to function as a premier platform for advertising?

I'm rather excited about FacebooK Groups. I see some real potential for group collaboration and sharing insight. I'm looking forward to using it.
For me, portability of info was the big thing. But that doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar. Yet another geeky complaint that turns out to be a non-issue with folks, I guess.
I like the idea of being able to back off all my data. That's really nice but the question becomes, what do I do with it afterwards? If you could back off groups or pages, that would be great. You could run temp campaigns and then back off what you did for posterity.
I think it's a red herring of the tech community. People bitch about their data and portability, but when it's offered, no one really needs it.
