Survey said! Too many useless posts is the number one reason folks unfriend you on Facebook.

Which gets me thinking, all you Twitter-cross-posting-not-really-present-there people...you might want to think about the venue before you populate that Facebook feed with Twitter inanity.

I've softened a bit on the issue of cross posting and do it it occasionally, but only in a deliberate and considered manner. But it is interesting to think how different the venues are, even if you have the same people in both groups. Twitter has become random thoughts. Facebook is updates on my life. The rule is unwritten, but it's funny how we are innately policing our streams with this in mind.

Here is the thing with cross posting because I only have one Facebook friend that does this. When he posts from twitter to Facebook he shares with his FB network, but then doesn't go to his FB network and address anyone who comments on his tweet! Since I don't see most of the live feed I only see his cross post occasionally. I think this should be saved for worthwhile stuff. Say photos when you are out.
Bob!!! This is my pet peeve. I even tried to start a Facebook group, "Facebook is Facebook. Twitter is Twitter. Embrace the Difference." but it didn't go anywhere. I have quit following people on Twitter because I can read their posts, hashtags and all, on Facebook. I don't need it twice, verbatim.
I'm glad to find kindred spirits on this. I've written several blog posts on it, going back as far as two years ago. Admittedly, if you are a brand and are broadcasting, then by all means cross post. People can decide if they want that. But for individuals to do it just seems lazy. In fact, my last rant on the subject was entitled "Multiple Posting Services=Lazy Engagement." Ha!
Agreed. I cross-post certain items (say, a recent blog post or new project on Behance, etc), but mostly my social networks are kept separate, even with some crossover in terms of followers/friends/etc.

The way I look at it, Facebook's for life, Twitter's for fun, and LinkedIn's for work. Since we all want a job for life that's fun, it's not exactly a sin to cross-post between the three, but some people do take it too far.
I think this also has to go with what the two networks are like. I have almost zero pre-twitter friends on twitter. If I used Facebook for business relations as well as personal I might think differently. I am a Beancast Fan on Facebook and would not be upset if Bob Tweeted a new blog post and it showed up in my Facebook stream which is what you are relating too Stuart. All of Bob's personal Tweets I would be a bit miffed. Getting seen is a different story. I know I have over 400 updates waiting on Facebook and if you are in that first page I will see it...the rest do not exist LOL

I find I've friended people I just don't care about or my relationship to them changed so they aren't part of my life any more. I've switched careers or changed hobbies and suddenly there are a group of people that I have nothing in common with any longer and have defriended them.

Oh and old high school classmates. Why friend them? You haven't talked to them 20 years...do you really want to talk to them now?
