Apologies to Chris Brogan for finding humor in his recent unpleasantness, but we did have a blast determining the value of everything we talked about on the show.

And speaking of value, this show is jam packed with it. Sometimes fate smiles with the perfect panel to discuss the news at hand. This was definitely one of those times.

So please enjoy the show. And remember, I'm always game for more Twitter followers. I'mTheBeanCast. As always, thanks for listening and please add a positive review to iTunes if you like the show.

Sometimes there's a perfect marriage between the week's news and the panels I assemble months in advance. This was definitely one of those times.

With our subjects that ran the gamut from mobile to PR to social marketing, we had just the right mix for some really insightful commentary.

So please enjoy the show. And remember, I'm always game for more Twitter followers. I'm TheBeanCast. As always, thanks for listening and please add a positive review to iTunes if you like the show.

The Olympics were front and center on our topic list. The apparent success of the games for advertisers seemed in stark contrast to the vitriol being handed out to NBC for aggregating content into prime time. It made for a very interesting discussion.

Add to this some talk about sentiment analysis with just a dash of Kevin Smith and we were cookin'!

Enjoy the show. And remember, I'm always game for more Twitter followers. I'mTheBeanCast. As always, thanks for listening and please add a positive review to iTunes if you like the show.

The Super Bowl ad-fest continued it's downward spiral this year, leaving the panel mostly unimpressed. But the larger issues of sexism, ethics and creativity offered plenty of fodder for us to discuss and made for a lively debate.

A program note, George Parker is very soft in this episode due to some connection issues. Apologies for that. I normally wouldn't have allowed someone to connect via phone, but his insights are totally worth cranking the volume up to hear.

BeanCast 90: Flyover Country

We've all heard Bill say it before on the show. Middle America is "Flyover Country," and it represents the mass of America that doesn't live in a major metro, makes up the bulk of U.S. purchasing power, and who agencies pretend to understand without really having a clue how to reach.

This week when he said it, though, it was a good reminder that for all the Super Bowl hype among agency-folk over good and targeted work, the average football viewer was probably laughing hysterically at the crotch shots and GoDaddy.com ads.

Sometimes marketing just ain't rocket science. Sometimes it's just about giving people what they want.

In the last few minutes of the show, Sally unintentionally summed up much of our hour-long conversation with a thought about sarcasm as an economic indicator. And boy! Was this show ever filled with sarcasm! Not sure what that means, but I'm hoping it's a good thing.

Listen, learn and laugh with us this week as we tackle everything from things that start with a little "i" to whether account planning should die. (Yes, we went there too.)

BeanCast 88: Brands And Politics

It's an interesting prospect to contemplate. Now that companies have no limit on political contributions and can contribute until election day, will we one day see branded campaigns?

Bill Green suggested it on his blog and we ran with it on the show this week. And though the consensus was largely that it couldn't happen, we've been wrong before.

It's a thought-provoking discussion you're sure to want to hear.

BeanCast 87: Text For Haiti

DOWNLOAD THE SHOW NOW

We just did a show on mobile and the next week brought us face-to-face with it's true power in the face of tragedy.

As the world watched the terrible events unfolding in Haiti, the message started to get out that there was a simple way for all of us to help. We could text a string of numbers — 90999. And, if we messaged this number with the word "HAITI," we could automatically donate $10. It was that easy. We didn't even have to take out our credit cards.

This mobilization (forgive the pun) was unprecedented, giving us a real glimpse of how mobile-phone focused we have become as a society. It also gave us a fascinating topic to discuss and one you'll definitely want to hear.

BeanCast 86: Worse Than Cancer

DOWNLOAD THE SHOW NOW

It was just an off-hand comment by Angela at the end of recording, but when she contrasted data loss with cancer it seemed the perfect theme for the show.

Mobile is on the rise not because of convenience, but because we can't be separated from our data. Google is pushing the boundaries for lead generation because we need more data. Local business are leaping into the digital space because they can no longer compete without embracing a data-driven future.

So the idea of losing data has indeed become worse than cancer. Not sure how I feel about that. But not sure my feelings matter at this point.

So what the heck! Give me more data and add me to your Twitter profile if you haven't done so already. I'm TheBeanCast. As always, thanks for listening and please add a positive review to iTunes if you like the show.

Anybody in data recovery out there willing to help a poor podcaster?

Yes, I ended the year (literally on New Year's Eve) with a failure of my primary hard drive. All of my client and show data was backed up within a day or so, but inevitably I managed to loose more than I'd like. I've written it off to a crappy end to a crappy year.

But on the good side, the experience has inspired an awesome blog post for tomorrow, a time capsule set up for constant back ups and a can-do attitude that created this particular show.

And like I said during the episode, I really can't think of a better group to start the year off with. Steve and Bill are perennial friends of the show and Erik is the maker of a movie all about overcoming adversity. Sounds good, right? Believe me -- it was. So give it a download. And happy new year.
